But the remarks were unlikely to satisfy Israel, which called today for an emergency session of the UN security council.

“We have decided to open a broad diplomatic offensive,” the Israeli foreign minister, Silvan Shalom, said.

The country’s prime minister, Ariel Sharon, called yesterday for Iran to be expelled from the UN.

“A country that calls for the destruction of another people cannot be a member of the UN,” he said.

I’m forced to ask, well what about a country that is in the process of destroying another people?

Putting aside what the Iranian leader said (which anyone with half a brain knows are purely for the sake of popular mass consumption and bear little meaning in the real world), this move by Israel, these very statement by Sharon, is something beyond my comprehension.

How can a country come to the UN and demand another country to be expelled when that same country has violated and ignored over 65 UN resolutions against it!

The UN has become a toothless old man just yelling at the clouds.
