today i learnt something that left me stunned, the classic movie "Lawerence of Arabia" apparently has all along been under an official ban! as in not to be shown ever on Jordanian tv!! took me by surprise given it was filmed in Wadi Rum and most of the extras were from Jordan as I read, so we authorised the filming of a movie that we then banned!

"Spurlock decided to go looking for the most wanted man on the planet: Osama Bin Laden. With a baby on the way, Spurlock rationalized the journey as wanting to be able to secure a safer world for his kid: perhaps a noble and fatherly pursuit."

If only world safety was really that simple to achieve.

I really admire the likes of Morgan Spurlock and Micheal Moore - sure there are gaps in the way they sometimes approach things but there's something very human about them that I like. Have you seen Spurlock's 'Being a Muslim for 30 days' ? I thought that was interesting too. Your description of his enlightenment makes me want to go down to the balad right now and grab a copy. Which reminds me, any store in specific that you recommend? (all my copies turn out to be very poor in quality) :D lol

Excellent review. I'll link it.

Spurlock is a good guy. Even the title of this film is brilliant.

This movie wasn't received well in the States, and many critics called Spurlock "egotistical" and "shallow." I think that most people simply don't get him. There something about his style - he fuses sardonic hipsterdom with a belief in some form of human goodness, and it doesn't appeal to cultural gate-keepers.

Or hell, maybe I'm the one who doesn't get him. Who knows? ;)

Salam,
I just watched it a couple of days ago. What I really liked most about it is when he said something like:
We were always taught to fear these people, but what I found is people like us who are trying to make ends meet.

He also interviewed the average people in the streets, I almost fainted laughing when I saw him wearing dishdasha at Saudi mall.

I also did like what the Isareli journalist had t say about Palestinians and Israelis both know how this conflict is gonna play out and in the ends Israel has to given in the land to the Palestinians (west bank & Gaza) but how many people have to die to reach this conclusion?!

Great Review.

You should ralso read his book which as far as I remember has the same title. The chapter her wrote about his visit to Jordan is quite interesting, and I loved the very last sentence he wrote in the book!
