Reading your post immediately brings to mind a couple of column writers who have been writing in Al Rai for as long as I remember!.. Ironically, their names match their philosophy in life and their ideas of truth! It FLIPS all the time!! I'm sure such guys have always been on more than one payroll!! The least profitable of those would be the newspaper that hires them!

I tend to believe that Dhahbi government did not pay journalists but this is the exception and not the norm. The formers government used to pay incentives and some journalists started to believe that these payments are "untouchable" rights for them and should be maintained!

"If a series of anti-Islamist columns written by big-named columnists from popular tribes suddenly appear in all the “government” papers weeks before an important election, it’s a signal. "

Now substitute-well not substitute but compliment- the above with " If a "couple" of anti-islamist people were appointed in the new government(Think naser joudeh and nayef elqadi), and many more keep being invited to the royal court, the last of which occurred today, then there can't be a clearer signal to those who dream of press freedom".

But then again, when you look at the state of affairs you can't blame the royal court of giving authors like Nigel Ashton unlimited access to loads of information about the late king hussein while our journalists are busy cleanning up their brown-sometimes can be greenish- noses ;)
