I am glad that Earth hour got some interest, and that was the whole purpose. we were not planning to save the Earth by doing that, but rather raise the attention and awareness about the importance and the power of the individual to make a difference in environmental protection. The campaign confirmed that we have some way to go concerning general environmental awareness that leads to action. It is important to continue to raise those issues and challenges and what we we all need to do to change them positively. There are still many environmental challenges, looking forward to more debates on that.

Are you really suprised that Jordan did not participate fully??? As an avid suporter of the enviornment I did my part and shut everything off and hoped that my neighbors would follow, but when I looked to check their progress I saw him dump his trash out of the window. Why is it that no one cares about how they are hurting themselves. Even at a recent visit to the Children's Mus. in Amman, I saw a huge exhibit on recycling, unfortunatly no one could tell me where the eccling center was. To bad.

Amman is now a modern city. It can't offer a sacrifice to the New Secular Religion by pretending to return to the stone-age. Do you know what country celebrated Earth Hour best? North Korea! But then North Korea celebrates Earth Hour ever day and every night.

I wasn't disappointed for I never thought participation would amount for more than a dozen. Personally I did turn off every single electrical item in my house off for an hour (except for the fridge, which would've been counter productive). But that still makes it a sad state of affairs that no one cares, including GAM and the MOE (lets face it, if they truly cared they would've campaigned for it better).

on a final note, to all the self-styled cynics out there: yes it does make a difference (even though saving energy for just one hour was not the point). for every 1KW of energy consumed, 2.2 are wasted during the delivery process. go figure.

I'm joining you with your disappointing, we were the only house who switch off the lights in my street,my family and my friend.
I told all the people I know, I sent messages and e-mails but no body responds to that...

maybe next time they will be aware about the whole subject and react.

I looked outside at 9pm to see the street lights still on, and every single neighbor well-lit. Sadly surprised.

On a practical level, it was a difficult time for parents with the last night before the school week. But, I suppose that is the purpose of solidarity, whether it is convenient or not.

During Earth Hour, we were asking people to turn off all nonessential lights for one hour – no lights that affect public safety since the aim is for everyone to enjoy Earth Hour in a safe and energy efficient environment. However, in Jordan, the Municipality decided just to turn off the street lamp in the stated streets no more.

We encouraged as many people to turn off the lights as possible through the use of the media. Yet, civil action in Jordan remains a new concept.

The Call to Action Jordan movement, a non-profit collaboration of independent activists with the GCC and the EDN established 2 years ago, aims to tackle the lack of public awareness to environmental issues we are facing in Jordan: educate, mobilize and inspire personal/community action.
