I loved this series...I am Iranian and I think right now we are all so sensitive about what is said about Iran and the people in Iran.. but this was such a great way of bringing light to heartbreaking times while also bringing the world's attention to the situation there.. I love how Jason Jones ends it in "the kids are allah right". Thank you guys at the daily show for all the laughter and wisdom you bring to us!!!

Man, I've been meaning to write almost this EXACT post since the end of the school year (time flies when you're being a bum). The only thing I was going to add is that the senseless individuals who make such decisions should know that 2:10 pm is a BAD time to go from the King Hussein Club to, well, anywhere. Between the schools past the second circle and Colleea Islamiyyah, traffic is a nightmare. So, if your guy is THAT important, pick a time when you could realistically protect him. Because, really now, all you seem to be doing in this case is trying to show us how important he is...

You guys are talking about it this way.. and emphasizing on how weird it sounds and looks to you.. I've been away for more than 15 years.. just came back with all the intensions to settle here in my beloved home town.. Amman; can you even imagine how surprised.. rather shocked I was.. and still am...??!!

I go to coffee shops and few restaurants around the university "uni of Jordan" that's where I live and still familiar with to some extent; I happened to overhear few conversations between girls and guys as well.. but I was shocked the most by what I heard from some considerable amount of girls and their outlooks of this subject... how things have changed tremendously.

I had to see that for myself, so I did go out couple of times to see what's going on.. and yes... all I have read here is true.. and even a lot more.

I'm not sure what to think of that.. part of me says it's their life.. it's got nothing to do with me.. they free to do as they please as long as it dose not affect me in any way.. but on the other hand.. this exactly why I left where I was.. "Europe & Canada" ... !! I came back for my old Jordan.. my old good ppl.. the proud ppl.. the serious "to a boring extent sometimes" ppl.... the very straight talkers and honest ppl... even the nosiness that we used to complain about.. I missed all that.

Any way.. I don't think anything I say here or any where else would make much of a difference.. I guess it's an era we live where every thing.. everybody.. and everywhere is just the same.. and it's basically what we choose to be and think for ourselves...

And I choose to be the old Jordanian type... Proud of it ... and always will be.

Ok...Ok...Ok First the movie was great and nothing less than perfection. So what the movie jumped from place to place. I was in the US Army and I have been to most of the named locations in this movie(Not much to see)! Everyone here seems to forget that a movies purpose is to entertain. Giant Robots, hot women, and fast cars...its the American way!!! Get over it!! The Pro-American sentiment is right were it needs to be, our military is one of the strongest in the world, also if you will watch the movie closer you will notice that we are teamed up with both British and Australian forces in this movie. Oh and The Dark Night was a great movie that got even more attention due to an untimely death, but its first week of sales put it at $203.1 million dollars, Transformer's came in at a cool $200.1 million not to bad for a "Horrible Movie"! So please Micheal Bay keep making Horrible, Entertaining, Action Packed, Foreign Military hating, American Sentiment filled, and Confusing, films that make millions and break records!!!!!! And yes you know you will go and watch it don't lie to yourself!

The voting interface is awfully annoying. The thumbnails are too small to get an accurate idea of the photograph. When you click on a thumbnail it highlights that image front and center, but it also kicks all the contest entries back to page one. So once I have clicked on an image (and whether I decide to vote for it or not), I have to remember which page I was on in order to pick up where I left off.

I would rather see a voting style similar to that of DPChallenge, where I can cycle through the photos in order (using a previous and next buttons) and rate the photos on a scale of 1-10. The highest rated photos could then be ruled as the winners.

Hey, great live blogging, but one thing: Representatives cannot filibuster in the House, only in the Senate. The House has a Rules Committee which sets time limits on debate (without Rules Committee intervention, regular House rules limit debate to 30 minutes per member but that never happens -- special rules are almost always used).

The Senate has no Rules Committee, thus debate is usually not limited (only in some very special cases) and that's what allows for the filibuster to occur. It isn't a parliamentary tool that is invoked, rather, just what we call talking a bill to death.

Thanks!
Diego

@Basel: I don't think anyone voicing an opinion should stand alone. If done collectively, your voice, coupled with my voice, coupled with 10,000 other voices can have an impact as history has proven time and again.

@Musa: I disagree with regards to your take on the repetitive voicing of concerns. I think we (as Jordanians) have an obligation to do that in a collective and sustained effort towards solving those problems, one at a time.

The alternative is for us to all sit back and say "what's the use?" and acquiesce.

I don't think that's how problems get solved.

The formula of leaping over mountains instead of climbing one steep at a time is neither rationale nor attainable. And neither is giving up on the climb itself.

haha, i came here by searching "apparment hunting in amman"
Interesting to read.
Very pronounced inferiority complexes if I may say.
I hope we get modernized to the extent where my boyfriend of 2 years drops me off at home after a date with a cute little good night kiss without the neighbours thriving on seeing more evidence that i am a loose girl.
i am a 26, unmarried, west ammani girl, wears tank tops and short skirts in the summer, and so are all my friends... there's no 5 minutes sealing the deal...no random one night stands...non of this generalized idiocy, and my clothes are not an invitation, and who ever thinks so is a fool.
i am at work now debating this matter with my male co-worker who is agreeing with how loose the morals are here nowadays, but i believe, that, as said in the original article, it's exclusive to specific places, specific clubs...and if that's what you seek then that's what you're going to get. What's happening is a social phenomena. stop generalizing. stop objectifying women. and stop calling Jordan a shit hole. It's an amazing country, it has good people, and not all are hopeless cases.

Apologies for missing the supposed mark, but maybe it was not as clear since it looked much smaller from the wider perspective.

Without going around in circles, and judging by your "as long as people are not allowed to truly elect who governs them" statement from the preceding "greater issues" post, it seems that we have reached a point where many change-seekers realise that the "circus-act" parliaments and the temporary corruption-laden governments are nothing more than accessories for the single decision maker, who is undoubtedly above the law.

While dedicating the battles to the petty outcomes of this abnormal situation (the palace's clear infringement on every aspect of life without any sort of responsibility) may be regarded as a noble act (especially among half-assed reformist), the sheer volume and range of these annoyances will automatically deem voicing them repeatedly – absurd (as in unreasonable and useless, for the lack of a better word for the Arabic term A'bathi). Just look at the number of (whining, moaning, and complaining...) columns in daily newspapers analysing the symptoms in between articles that praises the disease – usually by the same authors.

@Musa: hmm, regularly, despite my disagreements with you, you tend to have a valid point, but you seem to have missed the mark here. what happened? i have to admit, in a weird way, i'm a bit disappointed.

see, the thing is, I've complained about, ranted or discussed a lot worse things on this blog, so you taking this (or that watwet post) as a sample of my underlying "perspective" and then cementing it in stone is as silly as it is absurd. this rant is simply a sample from the everyday annoyances we face as citizens rather than an addressing of the "greater" problems, something I've done quite a lot of, and the post that precedes this one is an example of that.

the truth is, we can't bash everything in hopes that it will one day simply all disappear. those of us who are interested in real change need to pick our battles one at a time until real change comes about.

and if you are in to discussing the larger problems then i support you, and I really, really encourage you to start a blog.

again.

in the meantime, this blog is my dose of free speech and i think i, and every other blogger, should be free to use it to talk about any issue we want, even if those issues are beneath musa.

It is just amazing that one of the few things that bother an enlightened citizen about an autocratic kleptocratic 19th-century royal regime that dominates every aspect of its citizens' life is the way the plantation masters travel around in the land that they literally own [or at least handle it with that mindset] !!!

This is just as absurd as claiming that one of the biggest issues that bothers anyone is the fact that the self-centered fame-starved brand-obsessed WEF lecturer is using twitter instead of wat-wet to promote her pretentiousness.

Something as trivial as the fact that the "royal palaces' cars" in these motorcades are exempt from the 12JDs they have to pay for new license plates (by law), or that the minister of interior can issue a regular license plate to these cars without paying the custom fees is a much bigger violation of the constitution than an obscure prince or some parasitic sharif stopping traffic on a major street to arrive in time for the opening of a major industrial facility or a private school's graduation ceremony.

But hey, at the end of the day it is all relative and can be viewed from different perspectives; while some people find rape absolutely reprehensible, some others may take offence to the lack of a contraceptive or the insufficient foreplay during the crime.
